 Being Bio-integrated requires the utmost respect
for grapevines and soils:
in Olianas we work our soils with Vegas and Dinette,
our carthorses,
to improve the vitality of the soil
and allow the plants to root
in the deeper layers of the soil.
The Vineyards

At an altitude of 370 meters above sea level, our Estate has 16 hectares of grapevines: 12 red grapes, 4 white grapes, with a density of 5500 plants per hectare and the average age of the grapevines between 10 and 14 years.
The farming system is partly Guyot and partly spurred cordon.

Our Bio-integral philosophy involves the utmost respect for grapevines and soils: the use of herbicides, chemical fertilizers and synthetic products for the pest management of the plant are banned. The use of tracked or rubber tyre vehicles is limited, as they involve an excessive soil compaction: we favour the use of animals instead, including horses.

It is not folklore, but an ancient method that boosts the roots up to the deeper layers of the soil and ensures longevity for our plants.
The harvest is strictly manual, with selection of the grapes in the field.
The date of collection is established after a thorough inspection of the sensory (with the taste of the grapes in the field) and chemical (sugars, polyphenols and acidity) characteristics.

The management of soil fertility is through organic fertilization and green manures. Only if necessary, we apply microelements exclusively of biological origin.

Red Grapes

The land used for red grape varieties is of two types.
Part of the hectares cultivated with Cannonau and Bovale are clayey–sandy from the Middle Miocene: deeper and darker in color, they have a moderate presence of gravel. This area, thanks to the natural shape of amphitheatre, is the most sheltered from the winds and the warmest.
Wines made from this micro-area are mor3e structured, with a good polyphenolic ripening.
The other part of land planted with Cannonau and Carignano, on the other hand, is the sandy type with clayey intercalations, also from Middle Miocene: of yellowish-brown color, these are soils that can count on a good ventilation that mitigates the heat of summer, thus enhancing a great development of flavor profiles. The grapes in this area are much more fruity and fresh.

THE VINE VARIETIES

  • Cannonau (8 hectares, 66% of the area planted with red grapes);
  • Sardinian Bovale (2 hectares, 16%);
  • Carignano (1 hectare, 8%);
  • Other varieties (1 hectare: Cabernet Sauvignon 3%, Syrah 3%, Tintillu (Alicante Bouschet) 2%, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2%).
White grapes

For these varieties we chose the looser soils of the Estate, of sandy-clayey origin dating back to the Miocene, with the presence of conglomerates, sandstones and marls. Thanks to the soil and climatic conditions (good ventilation, low humidity and strong temperature range) our white wines express to the highest degree the freshness and elegance of Vermentino.

THE VINE VARIETIES

  • Vermentino (3 hectares, 75% of the area planted with white grapes);
  • Nasco (1 hectare, 25%);
